Semperoper Dresden Cancels Opening Night of ‘Madama Butterfly’ Due to COVID-19

The Semperoper Dresden has canceled the opening night of “Madama Butterfly.”

The company noted that due to COVID-19, the new production by Amon Miyamoto, has been postponed by a few days to Wednesday, April 6, 2022.

In a press release the company said, “due to the high number of staff absences due to COVID-19 infection, the premiere performance cannot be realized technically and artistically as originally planned on April 2, 2022.”

The Semperoper noted that tickets issued for the April 2 performance are no longer valid and refunds will be offered.

The company also noted that the chamber concert on March 31 is also canceled.

“Madama Butterfly” is set to star Kristine Opolais, Christa Mayer, Freddie De Tommaso, and Gabriele Viviani.
