Semperoper Dresden Announces Numerous Cast Changes For New Year’s Eve

The Semperoper Dresden has announced a number of cast changes for its two Dec. 31 performances of Verdi’s “La Traviata.”

The company announced that for its 4 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. showcases mezzo Jelena Kordić will step in for Grace Durham in the role of Flora Bervoix. 

The company also announces that tenor René Barbera will return to the company after his acclaimed 2017 debut stepping in for an ill Stanislas de Barbeyrac as Alfredo Germont in the performance at 4 p.m.

Then at 8:30 p.m. tenor Marco Ciaponi will replace Atalla Ayan as Alfredo Germont.

Additionally, baritone Antonio Yang will sing both performances as Giorgio Germont. 

Soprano Iulia Maria Dan is set to sing the 4 p.m. performance as Violetta, while Venera Gimadieva will take on the role of the titular heroine during the 8:30 performance. Maestro Stefano Ranzani is set to conduct both performances. 

The production of Verdi’s classic tragedy runs through Jan. 19, 2019.
