By Francisco Salazar

The Semperoper Dresden has announced a cast change for its final two performances of “Don Giovanni.”

The company announced that David Steffens will sing Il Commendatore in Mozart’s work on June 16 and 20, replacing Alexandros Stavrakakis, who is ill.

The German bass will make his Semperoper Dresden debut. He is an ensemble member of the Stuttgart Staatsoper and he recently performed Kaspar in “Der Freischütz” at the Strasbourg Opera and appeared as Baron Ochs at the Chemnitz Opera. Steffens has performed in Madrid Lausanne, Salzburg, Stuttgart, Berlin, Leipzig, Prague, and Vienna, among other cities to great acclaim.

Steffens joins a cast that includes Ildebrando D’Arcangelo, Elena Gorshunova, Joseph Dennis, Hrachuhí Bassénz, Markus Marquardt, Martin-Jan Nijhof, and Anke Vondung. Omer Meir Wellber conducts the acclaimed production by Andreas Kriegenburg.
