Semperoper Dresden Announces Cast Change for ‘Die Zauberflöte’

The Semperoper Dresden has announced a cast change for its performance of “Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte.”

The company announced that ensemble member Joseph Dennis will sing the role of Tamino replacing Sebastian Kohlhepp, who had to cancel.

Dennis has performed numerous roles at the Semperoper Dresden including Belmonte in “Die Entführung aus dem Serail,” Tamino in “Die Zauberflöte,” Don Ottavio in “Don Giovanni,” Brighella in “Ariadne auf Naxos,” The Steuermann in “Der Fliegende Holländer,” Pylades in “Iphigenie aus Tauris,” Ferrando in “Cosi fan Tutte,” as well as Jacquino in “Fidelio.” He has also performed at Opera Memphis, North Carolina Opera, Virginia Opera, and Central City Opera.

Dennis joins a cast that includes René Pape, Nikola Hillebrand, and Tuuli Takala.

The Nov. 1 premiere marks the final performance at the Semperoper Dresden before closing for the month due to the new partial lockdown.
