Seattle Symphony Announces Two New Violinists, Extends Current Conductor

The Seattle Symphony has announced two new artists who will be joining the company, as well as the extension of the tenure for a current artist.

The company welcomes violinist SeungHoon Lee as the John & Carmen Delo Associate Principal Second Violin, as well as violinist Ilana Zaks to the Second Violin section. Assistant conductor Sunny Xia has been renewed for the 2023-24 season as their Douglas F. King Associate Conductor.

A graduate of Rice University, Lee is an award-winning soloist, taking home prizes from the Young Texas Artist Competition, International Solo Violin Competition, and Korean Brahms Association Competition. A graduate of Yale, Zaks studied under Itzhak Perlman as part of the Perlman Music Program, and has received honors such as the Yale University Broadus Earle Prize for Outstanding Violinists, and the Yale Women Faculty Forum Seed Grant.

Joining in the 2022-23 season, Xia has led performances such as three Family Concerts, the “Celebrate Asia” program with Violinist Kerson Leon, two Community Concerts, as well as four “Link Up” performances. On April 21, she weill conduct Artist in Residence Angelique Poteat’s new work “Dear Humanity” for Youth Chorus and Orchestra.
