Scottish Opera Announces Plans for New Development

By Francisco Salazar

The Scottish Opera plans to create an “exceptional development” in Glasgow.

The new plans will bring three of its premises under one roof. Known as the New Rotterdam Wharf project, the plan involves redeveloping land beside the company’s purpose built Edington Street production studios.

The Scottish Opera currently operates out of a rented headquarters in an “aging” Victorian building in Charing Cross, and a large orchestra rehearsal space out at Hillington Park.

The new space would include music rehearsal and performance spaces as well as film facilities, office, and production spaces. There will also be student accommodation for 700 students.

According to a press release, the Scottish Opera is hoping the project is ready for August 2027 for Academic year 2027-28. The project reaffirms the company’s commitment to Glasgow.
