
Schmidt Vocal Arts Announces First National Competition in it’s 25-Year History
By David SalazarSchmidt Vocal Arts announced the first national prize of its 25-year history of the Schmidt Vocal Competition.
This year, the organization will provide more than $625K in cash awards and scholarships. The company will hold 16-day regional competitions throughout 2021-22 and the top three winners of each will be invited to compete in the finals on June 3-5, 2022. Sarasota Opera will host the finals at the William E. Schmidt Opera Theatre.
Among the judges for this year’s competition will be Eric Owens, Tamara Wilson, and Sarasota Opera General Director, Richard Russell.
“We’re delighted to expand our programming to include the Schmidt Vocal Competition High School Nationals. It is an honor to reach this next generation of young singers and help them pursue careers in music at the collegiate level and beyond. We so look forward to hearing these voices from across the country perform live on the stage of the William E. Schmidt Opera Theatre at Sarasota Opera,” said Linda McAlister, Schmidt Vocal Arts’ Executive Director.
