Sasha Cooke Joins Metropolitan Opera’s ‘Rodelinda’

By Francisco Salazar

Sasha Cooke has joined the Metropolitan Opera’s revival of “Rodelinda.”

Cooke will replace Jamie Barton in the role of Eduige. Barton recently withdrew from the production as she will sing the company’s new staging of “Don Carlos,” replacing Elina Garanca.

Cooke made her Met debut in 2007 in a production of “Iphigénie en Tauride” and is set to take on the role of Cherubino in a revival of “Le Nozze di Fígaro” this spring.

She joins a cast that includes Elza van den Heever, Iestyn Davies, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Paul Appleby, and Adam Plachetka. Harry Bicket conducts.

“Rodelinda” opens on March 11 and runs through the 27. The final performance scheduled for March 31 has been canceled due to challenges caused by the pandemic.
