Sarasota Opera Unveils 2024-25 Season & Casting

Sarasota Opera has unveiled its 2024-25 season.

First up is “The Music of Giuseppe Verdi” featuring principal artists of the company. Victor DeRenzi conducts the two performances of the concert. The showcase includes music from nine operas, including  “I Lombardi alla prima crociata,” “Aida,” “Rigoletto,” “Attila,” “La Traviata,” and “Don Carlos.” Performers include Virginia Mims, Rochelle Bard, Jean Carlos Rodriguez, Victor Starsky, and Young Bok Kim.

Performance Dates: Nov. 15 & 17, 2024

Additionally, Sarasota Youth Opera presents Dean Burry’s “The Hobbit.” The cast includes Isabella Maltese as Bilbo Baggins, Luke Harnish as Gandalf, Giuliana Bordes as Thorin, Finley MacBeth as Elrond, Zane Hancock as Azog, Nikolina Supe as Amarlind, and Ovid Rawlins as Thranduil.

Performance Dates: Nov. 9 & 10, 2024

For the Winter Opera Festival, the company will kick things off with “Cavalleria Rusticana” and “Pagliacci” in the classic double bill. The cast includes Lisa Chavez as Santuzza, Rafael Dávila as Turridu and Canio, and Jean Carlos Rodriguez as Alfio and Tonio. Victor DeRenzi conducts and Martha Collins directs.

Performance Dates: Feb. 15 – March 29, 2025

The company will then present two Beaumarchais adaptations. First up is “The Barber of Seville” with Lisa Maria Rogali, Filippo Fontana, Minghao Liu, Stefano de Peppo, and Young Bok Kim leading the cast. Marcello Cormio conducts and Marco Nisticò directs.

Performance Dates: Feb. 22 – March 29, 2025

Then comes its sequel, “Le Nozze di Figaro.” Jake Stamatis, Michelle Johnson, Mattia Venni, Tessa Fackelmann, and Brian Kontes star. Louis Lohraseb conducts and Tom Diamond directs.

Performance Dates: March 8 – 28, 2025

Closing out the season, and essentially bookending it is Verdi’s “Stiffelio” starring Victor Starsky in the title role. He is joined by Aviva Fortunata and Ricardo José Rivera. Victor DeRenzi conducts and Stephanie Sundine directs.

Performance Dates: March 15 – 30, 2025
