Sarasota Opera Announces Major Cast Change for ‘La Wally’

The Sarasota Opera has announced a major cast change for its upcoming production of “La Wally.”

Italian soprano Teresa Romano, was originally scheduled to perform in the production, has withdrawn due to illness. In her stead, the company has announced that soprano Caitlin Crabill will take over the title role.

Crabill performed the title role in “Turandot” at the company’s Winter Opera Festival in 2019. She is also slated to interpret Donna Elvira” in the forthcoming production of “Don Giovanni,” which is scheduled for the fall. Crabill is a former member of Sarasota Opera’s Apprentice and Studio Artist programs and has also performed the role of Cio-Cio San in Central City Opera’s “Madama Butterfly.”

The remaining cast members for this production include tenor Rafael Davila as Hagenbach, baritone Sean Anderson as Gellner, Young Bok Kim as Stromminger, and Lisa Chavez as Afra.

Stephanie Sundine, who played the title role in the company’s 1989 production of the opera, will be the stage director for the production, which will be conducted by Victor DeRenzi.

“La Wally” opens on March 7, 2020 and runs through March 22 for a total of six performances.
