By Afton Markay

The National Opera Association (NOA) has announced that at its 70th National Conference it will join forces with the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), and other Savannah Arts Organizations.

NOA+NATS 2025 Conference offerings include artistic discussions with NOA’s president Isaí Jess Muñoz and NATS’ president Alexis Davis Hall along with industry professionals such as the General and Artistic Director of The Atlanta Opera, Tomer Zvulun, and vocalists Mary Henderson-Stucky, Erie Mills, and Florence Quivar.

There are twenty-one breakout sessions, networking opportunities, and over twenty posters to be presented. Showcases include the Carolyn Bailey Argento Vocal Competition and the Robert Hansen Collegiate Opera Scenes Competition. The winning composition of the 2024-25 Dominick Argento Chamber Opera Competition “Bessie and Ma” by Douglas Buchanan and Caitlin Vincent will receive its world premiere. Also taking place throughout the conference is NOA’s 70 FOR 70 campaign, in celebration of its notable anniversary.

Prior to the start of the conference, SCAD will host a tour of Savannah Film Studios’ new backlot experience. Attendees will view the Extended Reality (XR) stage and learn new practices to marry opera with future technologies in film-making.

Through these collaborations NOA aims to honor its theme of “Building Together – Curating Tomorrow,” by bringing together directors, composers, librettists, pedagogues, and student singers from across the country.

The conference is scheduled for Jan. 5- 8, 2025 in Savannah, Georgia.
