Sarah Moulton Faux Stars in the Premiere of ‘The Climate Opera Project’ at BAM

American Opera Projects, in collaboration with NYU/Tisch Opera Lab presents the world premiere of “The Climate Opera Project.”

“The Climate Opera Project” is a collection of four short operas celebrating Earth Day 2024. Plots depict unlikely heroes reeling from the cataclysm of human-influenced natural disasters. These operas aim to tackle environmental issues with humor and hope. The operas performed are “Old King Trout” by Andrew Lynch, “The Thieving Cactus” by Gavin Knittle and Ashton Tibbitt, “Polar” by William Barnett and Fred Sauter, and Willem Oosthuysen and Tristem Moseley’s “The Watering Hole.” Additional music by Randall Eng is also included.

Soloists include soprano Sarah Moulton Faux, mezzo-sopranos Melisa Bonetti and Esther Yi-An Tien, countertenor Jordan Rutter-Covatto, and baritone Gideon Dabi. They are joined by music director Jeremy Chan at the piano. Sam Helfrich serves as stage director, with set designer Josh Oberlander, lighting designer Kristen Paige, and costume designer Amanda Roberge.

Performances of “The Climate Opera Project” will take place at three of BAM’s venues on April 23, 27, and 28.
