Santa Fe Opera Announces Casting Updates

The Santa Fe Opera has announced casting updates for its 2022 season.

The company noted that for its production of “Carmen,” apprentice singers Luke Sutliff will sing Dancaïrewhile Anthony León will sing Remendado. Meanwhile apprentice singers Darren Lekeith Drone will sing Moralès, Magdalena Kuźma will sing Frasquita, and Kathleen Felty will sing Mercédès. Finally, Omen Thomas Sade will sing Lillas Pastia.

For the company’s production of “The Barber of Seville,” apprentice singer Nicholas Newton will sing Don Basilio from July 2 to13 and August 26 while apprentice singer Murrella Parton will sing Berta. The role of Fiorello will be sung by apprentice singer Kyle Miller and the officer will be sung by apprentice singer Allen Michael Jones.

In the production of “Falstaff,” Brian Frutiger will sing Doctor Caius while second-year apprentice singer Thomas Cilluffo will sing Bardolfo and in “Tristan und Isolde,” apprentice singer Dylan M. Davis will sing the Shepherd while the sailor will be sung by apprentice singer Jonah Hoskins will sing the Sailor. The role of Melot will be performed by apprentice singer Eric Taylor will sing Melot and the Steersman will be sung by Erik Grendahl.

Finally for the production of “M. Butterfly 蝴蝶君,” apprentice singer Lucy Evans will sing the role of Agent 1, while apprentice singer Andrew Turner will sing the role of Agent 2.

Father and son team Rick Sordelet and Christian Kelly-Sordelet will serve as Fight and Intimacy Directors for all productions of the season.
