The Santa Fe Opera has announced a casting update for its production of Verdi’s “La Traviata.”

The company said Mexican baritone Alfredo Daza is set to make its house debut as Giorgio Germont in Louisa Muller’s new staging of “La Traviata,” a role he will also perform in the co-production at the Dallas Opera in the fall. He replaces Carlos Arámbula who has withdrawn for personal reasons.

Daza is well known at the Berlin State Opera where he has appeared in operas by Rossini, Verdi, Tchaikovsky, Gounod, Massenet, and Puccini. The baritone has also performed at the San Francisco Opera, the New York City Opera, the Washington National Opera, the Glyndebourne Festival Opera, and Mexico’s Opera de Bellas Artes.

Daza is set to join a cast that includes Mané Galoyan and Bekhzod Davronov. Corrado Rovaris conducts the production which opens on June 28 and runs through August 24, 2024.
