By Francisco Salazar

San Francisco Performances has announced it will present the Brentano String Quartet in collaboration with soprano Dawn Upshaw.

The concert is set to be presented on Dec. 4, at the Herbst Theatre.

The performance will mark the sixth time the Brentano String Quartet performs with the concert series since its debut in March 2008. Meanwhile, Upshaw returns for her ninth appearance since her recital debut in May 1990.

“Presenting the esteemed Brentano String Quartet with the great Dawn Upshaw is a special treat for us, especially with a program juxtaposing musical styles from vastly ranging time periods of music,” SFP President Melanie Smith said in a press release. “The Schoenberg and Respighi works are not frequently heard, and this program, performed by these five artists, demonstrates what SFP is all about—giving great artists the opportunity and freedom to perform deeply thoughtful and personally meaningful concerts.”

The performance will feature Mozart’s  Quartet in A Major, K464, Respighi’s “Il tramonto (The Sunset)” for voice & string quartet, P. 101, and Schoenberg’s Quartet No. 2 for soprano and string quartet in F-sharp minor, Op.10.
