San Francisco Opera to Present Virtual Conversations on Opera in Latin America
By Nicolas QuirogaSan Francisco Opera Department of Diversity, Equity and Community has announced new virtual conversations on Opera in Latin America throughout the month of July.
On July 11, director Emilio Sagi will provide a tour through the history of Zarzuela. Sagi has directed operas throughout all the major opera houses in Europe. In San Francisco, he directed such works as “Otello,” and his productions of “Don Carlo” and “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” have been performed on the company’s stage.
On July 18, 2021, Laura Prichard will take viewers on a trip through the history of baroque music in Latin America. Some of the highlights will include music by composer Manuel de Zumaya. Prichard is a regular lecturer with such organizations as the Chicago and San Francisco Symphonies as well as opera companies in San Francisco and Boston.
Finally, on July 25, Multidisciplinary Artist Albert Montañez place a spotlight on contemporary opera and stage works in Latin America. Montañez is a multidisciplinary artist that has worked with such organizations as the Alan Turing Project, the Jiangsu Symphony Orchestra, the China Philharmonic, and Nordic Song Festival, among others.
