3000 Hz Opera Lab Launches Inaugural Season

The new Chicago-based chamber opera company 3000 Hz Opera Lab is set to launch its first season in 2027.
For its first production, Benjamin Britten’s “Curlew River,” Will Liverman takes on the role of Ferryman, with Michael Sumuel as Abbot, Theo Hoffman as Traveler, and Adrian Kramer as Madwoman. Marcus Shields directs and Dame Jane Glover conducts. This performance is scheduled for Jan. 29 and 30, at Wicker Park Lutheran Church in Chicago.
Sam Grosby, co-founder and Artistic Director of 3000 Hz Opera Lab, said in a press release, “Our company’s intention with this production of ‘Curlew River’ is to peel back the story’s historical layers and lay bare the universal human experiences at the work’s core. Themes including loss, love, pride, and purpose resound as they did when the score was penned in 1964.”
Following this production, the company has Hearne’s “The Answer to the Question that Wings Ask” and Poulenc’s “La Voix Humaine” slated for summer 2027. More works by Britten such as “Burning Fiery Furnace” and “The Prodigal Son” are scheduled for 2028.
