
San Francisco Opera to Present Second Annual Pride Concert

San Francisco Opera will present its second annual Pride Concert on June 26 at the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco.
Sapphira Cristál, an opera singer, composer, and drag queen, returns as emcee for the evening. Conductor Robert Mollicone leads the San Francisco Opera Orchestra in a program blending opera, musical theater, and pop, with music by Michael Abels, Terence Blanchard, Brandi Carlile, Umberto Giordano, Charles Gounod, k.d. lang, Jacques Offenbach, Stephen Schwartz, Michael Tilson Thomas, Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder, and others.
The soloists include soprano Melody Moore, mezzo-soprano Nikola Printz, and baritone Reginald Smith, Jr., joined by San Francisco Opera Adler Fellows soprano Alexa Frankian, mezzo-soprano Sadie Cheslak, and tenor Thomas Kinch.
The evening includes a range of community activations throughout the opera house. Beginning at 6:30 p.m., the Marigold Project will present an outdoor interactive community altar on the Van Ness Avenue steps. At 7:05 p.m., a pre-concert talk features Rainbow Pride Flag project creators Servane Briand, Bridget McGraw, and Dominic Riley, moderated by lead artist Insiya Dhatt. Lobby exhibits include displays from the GLBT Historical Society, the Hand Bookbinders of California’s Rainbow Pride Flag Project, and AIDS Memorial Quilts from the National AIDS Memorial. The performancec kicks off at 8 p.m. local time and afterward, DJ Juanita MORE! leads a post-show dance party in the opera house lobby from 9:30 to 11 p.m.
On June 28, members of San Francisco Opera will march in the 56th annual San Francisco Pride Parade along Market Street starting at 10:30 a.m.
