The San Francisco Opera has released its latest episode of “In Song,” this time featuring Arturo Chacón-Cruz.
From his home base in Miami, Chacón-Cruz visits with Homestead-Miami Mariachi Conservatory students, revealing how culture, determination, and passion shape the music they make together.
The new episode gives audiences a look inside Chacón-Cruz’s relationship to music, from performing mariachi music he grew up with to singing Italian and Mexican songs with pianist Roberto Berrocal. Audiences will be able to watch Chacón-Cruz perform Agustín Lara’s “Granada” with the students from HMCC, which is recognized as Florida’s premier mariachi music school. The tenor also performs Vincenzo De Crescenzo’s “Rondine al Nido” and María Grever’s “Júrame,” with Berrocal at the piano.
The new episode is available now on sfopera.com, as well as the company’s official YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram channels.
San Francisco Opera’s “In Song” is a series of intimate video portraits featuring artists who draw audiences into their distinctive spheres through stories and song. So far the series has showcased J’Nai Bridges, Pene Pati, and Jamie Barton. Upcoming episodes include soprano Amina Edris filmed on location in Egypt.
