San Francisco Opera Changes Venue for ‘Bohème Out of the Box’ Performances Due to Weather

By David Salazar

San Francisco Opera has announced a venue change for its upcoming “Bohème Out of the Box” performances this weekend.

The events on April 11 and 12 have been relocated from Crane Cove Park to Pier 70, Building 12, due to inclement weather.

The free performances, featuring an abridged 75-minute version of Puccini’s “La Bohème” performed on a converted shipping-container stage with piano accompaniment, will now take place at the historic ship-building warehouse at 1070 Maryland Street. The new venue is a mixed-use conversion offering activities and eateries, presented in partnership with The Port of San Francisco and Pier 70.

Moreover, the April 11 and 12 performances mark the series’ first stop in San Francisco proper, with additional performances planned throughout April in Emeryville, Oakland, Woodside, and Concord.

The production is sung in Italian by San Francisco Opera Adler Fellows and guest artists, with live English translations available via personal mobile devices. English and Spanish translations are also accessible at sfopera.com/box. Free First Act family workshops begin at 1:30 p.m., 30 minutes before each performance.

Both performances begin at 2 p.m.
