Opera Lafayette to present ‘New Woman’ with Lauren Snouffer

By Francisco Salazar

Opera Lafayette is set to present “New Woman,” a bold reimagining of the Classical era through music, fashion, and the female voice.

The program sets the engineered perfection of castrato repertoire alongside the grounded power of women who defied convention.

The evening will include soprano Lauren Snouffer performing in couture creations by Ralph Rucci, the visionary designer celebrated for his sculptural form, precision, and line.

The music of Gluck and J.C. Bach will be part of the program as well as music by Maria Antonia Walpurgis and Marianna Martines.

Featuring Opera Lafayette’s acclaimed period orchestra led by Patrick Quigley, “New Woman” brings into sharp focus how artifice and experience shaped the Classical world.

“New Woman” will be performed in Washington, DC on April 30 at the Sixth & I and in New York City on May 2 at Merkin Hall at Kaufman Music Center.
