San Francisco Opera has announced a cast change for its production of “Rigoletto.”

The company announced that Yongzhao Yu will make his company debut as the Duke of Mantua, taking over for Giovanni Sala, who withdrew due to personal reasons.

Yu joins a cast starring Amartuvshin Enkhbat and Adela Zaharia. Eun Sun Kim conducts the iconic Verdi opera.

Yu is coming off a success run of “La Bohème” and “Aida” at the Metropolitan Opera. He has performed the role of the Duke at the English National Opera, Seattle Opera, and, following his San Francisco run, will take it on at Vancouver Opera. He is also scheduled to perform in “Tosca” at the Glimmerglass Festival and Pacific Opera Victoria.

“Rigoletto” opens on Sept. 5 and runs through Sept. 27, 2025.
