The President of the Salzburg Festival Helga Rabl-Stadler confirmed that the 2021 edition of the Whitsun festival will take place in May.

“Yes, all the events will take place, and the Board of Directors is in full agreement with the Festival’s Director Cecilia Bartoli,” said Rabl-Stadler in a press statement.

Rabl-Stadler added that she regrets that the dress rehearsal of Handel’s oratorio “Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno” scheduled for May 18, cannot be open to the public.

Salzburg Whitsun Festival will take place between May 21 and May 24, 2021, and will feature the Italian capital Rome as its main theme. The festival will spotlight such artists as Anja Harteros, Jonas Kaufmann, Sir Bryn Terfel, Cecilia Bartoli, Lawrence Zazzo, and Lea Desandre, among others.

The Austrian government has announced a gradual reopening starting on May 19, which comes just in time for the opening night of the festival.
