The Supervisory Board of the Salzburg Festival has announced that Helga Rabl-Stadler’s contract as President of the festival has been extended for one more year, expiring on the last day of 2021.

Rabl-Stadler’s contract had been extended for another three years back in 2016, and she was meant to oversee the Salzburg Festival’s centenary this year.

In order to present all of the programming that was meant to occur this year, Rabl-Stadler was asked by members of the board to remain as President for another year.

“All of the members of the Festival’s Supervisory Board welcome the personal decision of the Festival’s President,” Wilfried Haslauer, Governor of Salzburg said in a press release. “Helga Rabl-Stadler is the living embodiment of the Salzburg Festival, a global brand. Her indefatigable work has shaped the unique identity of the Festival and the City for 25 years.”
