‘Salome’ Production Canceled at Novaya Opera

By Francisco Salazar

The ⁦Festival Aix-en-Provence’s new production of “Salome” will no longer be going to Novaya Opera.

The production, which premieres in France in the summer, was set to open in Moscow this autumn. However, due to the war in Ukraine, the French festival has cut ties with the Russian company.

It is the latest opera company to cut ties with a Russian company following the Metropolitan Opera and Royal Opera House, who canceled collaborations with the Bolshoi Theatre.

“Salome” opens on July 5 and is set to star Elsa Dreisig in the title role, Gábor Bretz as Jochanaan, John Daszak as Herode, Angela Denoke as Herodias, and Joel Prieto as Narraboth. Ingo Metzmacher conducts the new production by Andrea Breth.

The new production will be performed five times through July 19, 2022.

The Novaya Opera next performs “Prince Igor” directed by Yuri Alexandrov.
