Salle Cortot to Present John Blow’s ‘Venus and Adonis’

The Salle Cortot in Paris will present “Venus and Adonis” on Oct. 4, 2024.

The John Blow work will be presented by Ensembles Masques under Olivier Fortin.

The cast stars soprano Rachel Redmond, baritone Drew Santini, and mezzo-soprano Natalie Perez. Redmond has performed with the English Tour Opera, Göttingen International Handel Festival, Opera du Rhin, and with the Aix-en-Provence. Santini has performed with Nieuwe Philharmonie Utrecht, Ensemble Masques, Luthers Bach Ensemble, Orchestra of the 18th Century, the Dutch National Opera, Gothenburg Opera, and Nederlandse Reisopera, among others. Finally, Perez was a member of the “Jardin des Voix” of Les Arts Florissants and was a member of the opera studio of Opera Fuoco.

The performance kicks off at 8:30 p.m. local time.

Blow’s “semi-opera” was written for the court of King Charles II and is considered by The New Grove as the earliest known opera, composed no earlier than 1681.
