Saioa Hernández To Make Royal Opera House Debut

By Francisco Salazar

Saioa Hernández is set to make her Royal Opera House debut tonight.

The Spanish singer is set to replace Sondra Radvanovsky, who is ill,  in Giordano’s “Andrea Chenier.’

Hernández recently made her role debut in as Maddalena at the Teatro Comunale di Modena and went on to perform the role at the Teatro Reggio di Emilia and Teatro Piacenza earlier this year. Earlier this season, the soprano also made an unexpected debut at the Gran Teatre Del Liceu where she filled in for an ill Irene Theorin in “La Gioconda” and was showcased in the cinema broadcast of the opera. Hernandez is currently singing a run of “Nabucco” at the Semperoper Dresden where she is making her role debut, house debut, and German debut.

The soprano joins Roberto Alagna, Christine Rice, Rosalind Plowright, and Dimitri Platanias. Daniel Oren conducts the production by Sir David McVicar.

Radvanovsky returns for the final two performances on June 6 and 9.
