Russell Thomas & Leah Crocetto Headline ‘Otello’ At Washington National Opera

The Washington National Opera is set to open the 2019-20 season with Verdi’s “Otello.”

The season will open with Russell Thomas in the title role, a work he recently performed to great acclaimed at the Canadian Opera Company. He is joined by Leah Crocetto in the role of Desdemona.

They both reunite after an acclaimed “Don Carlo” which OperaWire called, “Brilliant” and “filled with great voices.”

The two are joined by George Gagnidze, who makes his WNO debut in the role of Iago. Zach Borichevsky, Deborah Nansteel, Wei Wu, Alexander McKissick, and Hunter Enoch round out the cast.

The WNO’s production of “Otello” is conducted by Italian conductor Daniele Callegari with David Alden directing the new production.

“Otello” opens on Oct. 26 and runs through Nov. 16, 2019 at the Kennedy Center.
