Russell Thomas, Iestyn Davies, Kseniia Proshina, Quinn Kelsey & Karen Cargill Lead Canadian Opera Company’s 2025-26 Season

The Canadian Opera Company has announced its 2025-26 season.

The company opens its new season with Gounod’s “Romeo et Juliette” starring Bekhzod Davronov and Kseniia Proshina. The cast also includes Robert Pomakov, Gordon Bintner, Korin-Thomas Smith, Owen McCausland, Alex Halliday, and Alex Hetherington. Yves Abel conducts Amy Lane’s production.

Performance Dates: Sept. 27-Oct. 18, 2025

Robert Carsen’s production of Gluck’s “Orfeo ed Euridice” will be presented with Iestyn Davies and Anna-Sophie. Canadian conductor Bernard Labadie leads the COC Orchestra.

Performance Dates: Oct. 9-25, 2025

Quinn Kelsey leads Verdi’s “Rigoletto” with Ben Bliss, Andrea Carroll, Peixin Chen, and Zoie Reams. Director Christopher Alden helms the production while COC Music Director Johannes Debus leads the COC Orchestra.

Performance Dates: Jan. 24-Feb. 14, 2026

Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville” will be brought to life by director Joan Font. The cast will include Luke Sutliff, Deepa Johnny, Dave Monaco, Luca Pisaroni, and Renato Girolami. Daniela Candillari conducts.

Performance Dates: Feb. 5- 21, 2026

Canadian stage director Robert Lepage leads the double bill Bartok’s “Bluebeard’s Castle” and Schoenberg’s “Erwartung.” Bartok’s work will star Christian Van Horn and Karen Cargill while Schoenberg’s work will star Ana Gabler. Johannes Debus conducts.

Performance Dates: April 25-May 16, 2026

Russell Thomas stars in Massenet’s “Werther” alongside Victoria Karkacheva, Gordon Bintner, and Simone Osborne. Canadian director Alain Gauthier will spearhead an all-new production while Johannes Debus conducts.

Performance Dates: May 7-23, 2026
