The Royal Swedish Opera will present the world premiere of “Eatnama váibmu” (The Heart of the Earth) on Nov. 15, 2025, at 7 p.m. on the main stage.

Directed by Elle Márjá Eira, known for her Netflix film “Stöld,” the production tells a Sámi creation story with a libretto by Rawdna Carita Eira and music by Britta Byström. The cast stars Katarina Leoson (Ipmil), Jan Jakub Monowid (Mánnu), Klas Hedlund (Njáveš), Johanna Rudström (Beaivinieida), Jens Persson Hertzman (Háhčes), and Minna Tägil (Mánunieida).

A children’s choir from Adolf Fredrik’s Music Classes performs as a reindeer herd and rays of the sun.

The opera is performed in Northern Sámi with Swedish surtitles; this represents the first opera sung in Sámi to be staged at the Royal Swedish Opera and in all of Europe.

A pre-performance talk with the artistic team, moderated by Katarina Aronsson, will take place in the Guldfoajén at 6 p.m. local time.

The opera runs through Dec. 29, 2025.
