The Royal Swedish Opera is set to present the new opera by Britta Byström and Rawdna Carita Eira, “Eatnama váibmu.”
The story of “Eatnama váibmu” (“The Heart of the Earth”) is based on the Sámi creation story with its current theme of good and evil, and interaction with nature. The cast features Katarina Leoson, Jan Jakub Monowid, Klas Hedlund, Johanna Rudström, Jens Persson Hertzman, and Minna Tägil. They are joined by a large children’s choir and the Royal Swedish Orchestra. David Björkman and Anna-Maria Helsing conduct. Elle Márjá Eira directs.
The opera is performed in Northern Sámi with Swedish subtitles. “Eatnama váibmu” is suggested for those 10 and up.
This work is set to premiere on the Royal Swedish Opera’s main stage on Nov. 15.
