Royal Swedish Opera Names André Callegaro as Conductor in Residence

André Callegaro has been named the Conductor in Residence at the Royal Swedish Opera.

Throughout his post, Callegaro will collaborate closely with Royal Kapellmeister Alan Gilbert, Artistic Music Director Tobias Theorell, as well as all guest conductors. He will assist with the musical preparation and conduct numerous opera and ballet performances. Callegaro will start his assignment on Oct. 1.

Callegaro currently holds a position as Kapellmeister and Studienleiter at Theater Aachen, Germany. He studied orchestral conducting at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. As a member of the Jette Parker Artists Program at the Royal Opera, Covent Garden, he collaborated with Sir Antonio Pappano, Antonello Manacorda, Nicola Luisotti, Mark Wigglesworth, among others. He is a scholarship holder of the Richard Wagner Verband Bayreuth. Callegaro was selected from a pool of 250 applicants from over 30 countries.

In a press release Gilbert said, “I am very much looking forward to work together with André. His performance at the auditions was on a very high level and I am convinced that his presence will be a notable benefit for everyone involved in the musical processes at the Royal Swedish Opera.”
