The Royal Swedish Opera has announced it will close the theater for a few days for maintenance work on the ceiling of the auditorium.

The company said, “We regret to inform you that the performances of ‘Der ferne Klang’ on February 28 and March 3, as well as ‘Figaro Gets a Divorce’ on March 4, are cancelled due to technical maintenance work on the ceiling of the auditorium. More information will be sent out via email and text message to the affected audience.”

In 2025 the company announced a historic joint renovation plan for the Opera House and said that it would include an extension of approximately 2,300 square meters, allowing all artistic activities to stay under the same roof, as well as three new functional ballet rehearsal rooms, improved acoustics in the auditorium, and increased accessibility. Additionally, there would be a new entrance to an audience foyer and second stage which will mainly be used for its performances geared towards young people, along with a new terrace for the audience will be built on top of Café Opera with a view of Kungsträdgården, one of Stockholm’s most popular areas.
