Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Appoints Co-Principal Violist

Chinese violist Wenhan Jiang has been appointed co-principal violist of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

The orchestra took to social media and said, ‘The orchestra’s family is growing as we welcome Wenhan Jiang as our new co-principal viola. We’re very pleased to have him with us!’

Jiang added, “I’m thoroughly enjoying my time with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra!’ said Jiang. ‘This wonderful ensemble inspires everyone to excel. I’m looking forward to many more concerts and tours!”

Jiang studied at the Royal Academy of Music and was the recipient of the school’s Theodore Holland Viola Prize. He won third prize at the Oskar Nedbal Competition in 2021, and was previously viola section leader of the Ulster Orchestra in Belfast. He has performed with the Soochow University Symphony Orchestra and Suzhou Symphony Orchestra, and at the National Centre for the Performing Arts, Beijing.
