Royal Opera House to Close for Queen Elizabeth II’s Funeral

The Royal Opera House has canceled the Sept. 19 performance of “Don Giovanni” due to Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.

The company said that it will close the opera house “to mark the State funeral of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”

It is the second performance the company cancels after the Queen’s passing. On Sept. 8, the company also canceled its performance of “Don Giovanni.”

“Don Giovanni”  is set to open on Sept. 13 and will be presented through Sept. 26. The opera is set to star Luca Micheletti, Christopher Maltman, Maria Bengtsson, Charles Castronovo, and Paula Murrihy. The company is also currently presenting a production of “Salome” with Malin Byström, Jordan Shanahan, John Daszak, Katarina Dalayman, and Thomas Atkins.
