Royal Opera House Dominates Olivier Awards Opera Nominees

By Francisco Salazar

The Olivier Awards has announced its 2026 nominations and for this year, there is only one opera category.

The Best New Opera Production was dominated by The Royal Opera with such productions as “The Makropulos Case” from The Royal Opera, “Tosca” from The Royal Opera, and “Die Walküre” from The Royal Opera getting nods. The lone production in the category not to come from the famed company was the English National Opera’s nominees “Dead Man Walking.”

The news comes a few days after Danielle de Niese was announced as the recipient of the Outstanding Contribution to Opera Award for her distinctive career, blending operatic credibility with musical theatre style.

The Olivier Awards are set to be held on April 12, 2026 at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
