The Royal Opera has announced a cast change for its production of “Il Trovatore.”

The company said that Riccardo Massi will perform the role of Manrico in Adele Thomas’s new production of “Il Trovatore” on June 2, 5, 8, 13 and 16, 2023.

Massi will share the role with Gregory Kunde who performs the role on June 21, 24, 27, 29, and July 2 as scheduled.

Massi replaces Yusif Eyvazov who stated on Instagram that he was forced to cancel due to scheduling conflicts with the Teatro alla Scala “created by my former manager.”

Massi made his Royal Opera debut as Mario Cavaradossi in “Tosca” in 2014 and has returned to the Royal Opera in the same role in 2016, 2018, and 2021. He has also performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper, Canadian Opera Company, Teatro alla Scala, Gran Teatre del Liceu, and Salzburg Festival.

He will join a cast that includes Jamie Barton, Marina Rebeka, and Ludovic Tézier.
