Royal Opera House Announces Cast Changes for Various Productions

The Royal Opera House has announced a number of cast changes for several productions.

The company said that in “The Magic Flute” Nina Minasyan has withdrawn from the performances on Dec. 16, 19, 22, 28, 30, and Jan. 21, 24, and 27. The role of the Queen of the Night will now be performed by Aigul Khismatullina on Dec. 16, 19, 22, 28, 30, and Kathryn Lewek on Jan. 21, 24, and 27. Both will make their Royal Opera House debut.

In a performance of “Tannhäuser” on Feb. 16 will be conducted by Alexander Soddy. All other performances will be conducted by Sebastian Weigle as scheduled.

In a production of “Rusalka,” Matthew Rose has withdrawn from for health reasons. The role of Vodník will now be performed by Aleksei Isaev, who makes his Royal Opera debut.

Meanwhile, Catherine Foster will make her Royal Opera debut performing the role of “Turandot” on March 31 and April 3, 6, 8 and 13. Additionally, Ermonela Jaho will perform the role of Liu on April 13 in addition to her already scheduled performances on March 31 and April 3, 6, and 8.

In a production of “Aida,” Francesco Meli has withdrawn from some performances. SeokJong Baek will perform the role on May 5, 8, 10, 13, and 16. The role of Amonasro will now be performed by Ludovic Tézier on May 16 and Dimitri Platanias on May 20.

The company also announced that in Verdi’s “Il trovatore” Yusif Eyvazov has withdrawn from performing the role of Manrico on June 2, 5, 8, 13, and 16 due to a scheduling conflict. A replacement will be announced as soon as possible. The role of Leonora will be performed by Marina Rebeka on June 2, 5, 8, 13, and 16.

Finally, Christoph Pohl has withdrawn from some performances of “La traviata” and will be replaced by Juan Jesús Rodríguez who will perform the role on July 10, 13, and 19 making his house debut.
