Rossini Opera Festival to Be Performed Outside Pesaro

By Francisco Salazar

The Municipality of Pesaro has announced that the 2023 Rossini Opera Festival will not be performed at the Teatro Rossini.

According to deputy mayor Daniele Vimini, the earthquake in November complicated the ongoing maintenance operations. As a result, in planning for this season and the 2024 season all ROF shows will be performed at the Vitrifrigo Arena.

Meanwhile, Superintendant Ernesto Palacio said, “We take note of the situation that has arisen at the Teatro Rossini, for which we immediately took action to move ‘Aureliano in Palmira’ to the Vitrifrigo Arena, a theater venue which over the years has hosted some of the most significant shows in recent history of the event. This will require an additional effort from our technicians, whom I thank in advance for their availability and ability to deal with any unforeseen events. Having said that, we will be able to offer a significantly greater number of spectators to attend the opera staged by Mario Martone, an absolute rarity that was awarded as best rediscovered opera at the 2015 International Opera Awards.”

The Rossini Opera Festival is set to open on August 11 and will be performed through August 23, 2023.
