Rossini Masterpiece & Zarzuela Classics Headline Programming of 2025 Cartagena Music Festival

The XIX Cartagena Music Festival has unveiled its programming to kick off 2025. The focus will be music from the Iberian Peninsula.

Here is a rundown of the vocal performances on offer.

“Canciones con Aire Colombiano” will feature mezzo-soprano Paola Leguizamón and pianist Alejandra Roca taking on five songs by Jaime León Ferro as well as a song by Antonio María Valencia. They share the stage with pianist Mauricio Arias-Esquerra, who performs works by Valencia, Juan Domingo Córdoba, Luis Antonio Escobar, and Manuel María Párraga.

Performance Date: Jan. 10, 2025

Mezzo-soprano Sandra Ferrández and tenor Antonio Gandía are the featured soloists in a performance at the Teatro Adolfo Mejía. The program includes music by Chapí, Barbieri, Soutullo, Sorozábal, Luna, Bretón, and Torroba. Joining them is the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León under Thierry Fischer. Also on the program, taking on music by de Falla and Palomo is pianist Rafael Aguirre.

Performance Date: Jan. 10, 2025

The festival ends with a production of “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” by Rossini.” The opera stars Paola Leguizamón, Laura Gómez, Antonio Mandrillo, Andrea Pellegrini, Sergio Vitale, Roberto Abbondanza, and Juan David González. Aldo Sisicilio conducts the Orquesta Sinfónica de Colombia.
