Rose Opera to Perform ‘Celebration of Ukranian Song’

On Sept. 6, 2024, the Rose Opera will perform a recital at Leighton House.

The concert will be an evening of Ukrainian vocal music and include the country’s rich classical and folk traditions. The evening will also conclude with a hymn of love for the homeland.

According to Rose Opera the Ukrainian folk tradition has a back catalogue of about 200,000 songs, dating back to the pre-Christian period, before 988 AD. The company’s program at Leighton House will include romances and Cossack songs, accompanied by the bandura, a traditional plucked string instrument, as well as folk songs accompanied by violin.

Pianist Richard Black, violinist Iryna Andrienko, and bandura player Iryna Rodionova will perform music by Nestor and Ostap Nyzhankivsky, Stefania Turkevych, Yaroslav Lopatynsky, Myroslav Volynsky, Julius Meytus, and Natalka Poltavka.
