Roberto González-Monjas Appointed Chief Conductor of Mozarteumorchester Salzburg

The Mozarteumorchester Salzburg has announced that Roberto González-Monjas will join the company as their new Chief Conductor, starting in the 2024-25 season.

A graduate of Salzburg’s Mozarteum University, González-Monjas has collaborated with the orchestra since 2019 as a conductor, violinist, chamber musician and for multiple recordings. Currently, he is the Chief Conductor and Artistic Advisor of Salasinfoniettan in Sweden, Chief Conductor of Musikkollegium Winterthur in Switzerland, and has been appointed the Music Director of the Galecian Symphony Orchestra in Spain, effective September 2023.

“With Roberto González-Monjas, we have gained an internationally distinguished conductor and musician who embodies what our institution is all about: the constant renewal and revitalization of the music of all epochs, but especially the works of Mozart,” said General Manager Siegwald Butow in a press statement. “With his remarkable artistic abilities, profound knowledge of tradition, curiosity and contagious enthusiasm, Roberto González-Monjas is the ideal Chief Conductor for the Mozarteumorchester Salzburg.”

González-Monjas and Mozarteumorchester will next perform on May 11, 2023 in Salzburg’s Grosse Universitatsaila for a program of works by Ibert, Mozart, and Poulenc.
