Rhode Island Civic Chorale & Orchestra to Showcase ‘Essential Voices’

By David Salazar

Rhode Island Civic Chorale and Orchestra is set to present “Essential Voices” on March 30, 2025, at the Church of St. Sebastian starting at 3 p.m. local time.

The showcase will be led by artistic director Joshua Rohde and includes works by William Byrd, Bach, Hildegard von Bingen, Elain Hagenberg, Dale Trumbore, and Caroline Shaw. There will also be a world premiere by David Ibbett.

“What we’re presenting in ‘Essential Voices’ isn’t just a survey of important composers throughout history,” said Rohde in an official announcement. “We’re also asking, what is truly essential about singing and making music? It’s about expressing ourselves, connecting with others, and communicating emotions that go beyond words.”

Following “Essential Voices,” the ensemble will present “Howells and Duruflé” in May.
