Resonance Works to Open Season with ‘Hero Songs’

By Francisco Salazar

Resonance Works’ acclaimed Reson8 Vocal Octet is set to launch the company’s 2025-26 season with “Hero Songs.”

The performances will take place on Sept. 19, 20, and 21 and will include a moving program that explores what it means to be a hero in today’s world. The evening will include a live premiere of Peter Hilliard and Matt Boresi’s song cycle Hero Songs, as well as music by Joel Thompson, Rosephanye Powell, Damien Geter, Reena Esmail, Melissa Dunphy, and others.

In a statement, Maria Sensi Sellner, Artistic & General Director of Resonance Works said, “With Hero Songs, we wanted to explore the idea of heroism in a way that feels relevant to today’s audiences and inspires them to take action in their community. This moving program is a reflection on heroism and service. Not the kind with capes and superpowers, but the everyday kind that shows up in our communities through acts of compassion, courage, and commitment.”

Alongside this program, Resonance Works will also launch its “Be a Hero Volunteer Advocacy Project,” spotlighting local organizations that rely on the power of volunteers to make a difference. Participating organizations will be featured in the concert programs and on the company’s digital platforms.

Reson8 features eight of the region’s finest professional singers: Charlene Canty, Amelia D’Arcy, Timothi Williams, Zanna Fredland, George Milosh, Robert Frankenberry, Daniel Teadt, and Brad Smoak. Pianist Amaury Morales will accompany the octet.
