Renée Fleming & Will Liverman Headline Aspen Music Festival & School’s 75th Anniversary Season

The Aspen Music Festival and School has announced its 75th anniversary season.

Aspen Opera Theater and VocalARTS Co-Artistic Director Renée Fleming and opera director Peter Sellars coach the program’s major emerging talents in arias and scenes.

Performance Dates: June 29 & July 13, 2024

Soprano Renée Fleming, conductor Robert Spano, and the Aspen Festival Orchestra present “Pines of Rome.” The program consists of Strauss’ “Also sprach Zarathustra,” op. 30, the world premiere of Alan Fletcher’s “American Songs,” (AMFS Co-Commission), along with other works by Strauss and Respighi’s “Pines of Rome.” The dress rehearsal taking place at 2:30 is open to the public.

Matthew Aucoin’s new song cycle “Music for New Bodies” is performed by the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble lead by conductor Timothy Weiss and director Peter Sellars.

Myra Huang coaches the Aspen Opera Theater and VocalARTS program’s participants in Art Song.

“An Evening of P.D.Q. Bach” will feature artists from Aspen Opera Theater and VocalARTS.

The 2024 “Opera Benefit” concert stars baritone Will Liverman and other special guests. The lineup includes opera and music theater favorites.

“Opera House Music” spotlights the student artists of the Aspen Opera Theater and VocalARTS program. Hosted in a private home, the event includes an exclusive performance, conversation, light hors d’oeuvres, and refreshments.

The “Chamber Symphony: Spano with Joyce Yang, Kelley O’Connor” features the works of Gabriela Lena Frank, Peter Lieberson, and Manuel de Falla. Their afternoon dress rehearsal is open to the public.

The Aspen Opera Theater and Vocal ARTS and the Colorado Children’s Chorale present a semi-staged performance of Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel.” Patrick Summers conducts.

Aspen Conducting Academy Orchestra with conductors and hosts Cameron Stowe, Patrick Summers, George Jackson, Christopher Theofanidis, Matthew Aucoin, participate in “Opera Encounters: Arias and Scenes.”

“African Queens” is presented by soprano Karen Slack and pianist Kevin Miller.

Matthew Aucoin conducts Mozart’s ” The Marriage of Figaro.”

Christina Goerke leads the final installment of “Opera Encounters.”
