Renée Fleming, Diana Damrau, Angela Gheorghiu, Benjamin Bernheim, Erin Morley, John Osborn Lead Opéra National de Bordeaux’s 2021-22 Season

Opéra National de Bordeaux has announced its rich 2021-22 season. For the purpose of this article we will focus only on vocal performances.

Here is the full slate.

Opera

A semi-staged version of Meyerbeer‘s “Robert Le Diable” opens the season. The opera stars Erin Morley, Nicolas Courjal, Amina Edris, Nicolas Darmanin, Joel Allison, Paco Garcia, and John Osborn in the title role. Marc Minkowski conducts a production by Luc Birraux.

Performance Dates: Sept. 20 – 25, 2021

A double bill of Poulenc’ “La Voix Humaine” and Escaich’s “Point d’Orgue” will showcase soprano Anne Catherine Gillet, baritone Jean Sébastien Bou, and tenor Cyrille Dubois. Domingo Hindoyan conducts a production by Olivier Py.

The opera is a co-production with the Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Opéra de Dijon, Opéra de Saint-Etienne, and Opéra de Tours.

Performance Dates: Oct. 4 – 10, 2021

Lully and Molière’s “Le Bourgeois gentilhomme” spotlights Sébastien Boudrot, Josiane Stoleru, Guillaume Laloux, Bénédicte Choisnet, Pauline Deshons, Jean-Claude Bolle-Reddat, Vincent Debost, Jérôme Deschamps, and Aurélien Gabrielli. Thibault Noally conducts a production by Jérôme Deschamps.

Performance Dates: Jan. 11 – 21, 2022

Michèle Losier portrays Charlotte, Lionel Lhote performs Albert, Florie Valiquette sings Sophie, and Benjamin Bernheim stars in the title role of Massenet‘s “Werther.” Pierre Dumoussaud conducts a production by Romain Gilbert.

Performance Dates: Jan. 31 – Feb. 12, 2022

Donizetti‘s “L’Elisir d’amore” will have two casts, with Golda Schultz and Catherine Trottmann alternating in the role of Adina, and Kévin Amiel and Yu Shao alternating as Nemorino. David Bizic and Dominic Sedgwick perform Belcore, while Giorgio Caoduro and Julien Véronèse portray Dulcamara. Nil Venditti conducts a production by Adriano Sinivia.

Performance Dates: April 1 – 10, 2022

Florian Sempey and Thomas Dolié sing Count Almaviva, and Ana Maria Labin portrays Countess Almaviva in Ivan Alexandre’s production of Mozart’s operatic masterpiece “Le Nozze di Figaro.” Angela Brower and Megan Marino perform Susanna, while Robert Gleadow stars in the title role. The cast will be rounded out by Miriam Albano, Paco Garcia, Ariana Venditelli, Manon Lamaison, and Norman Patzke. Marc Minkowski conducts.

Performance Dates: May 20 – June 4, 2022

Alexandre Duhamel stars in the title role of “Don Giovanni” alongside Robert Gleadow as Leporello, Iulia Maria Dan as Donna Anna, Ariana Venditelli as Donna Elvira, James Ley as Don Ottavio, Leonard Bernad as Masetto, and Angela Brower and Megan Marino as Zerlina. Marc Minkowski conducts a production by Ivan Alexandre.

Performance Dates: May 22 – June 5, 2022

Così fan tutte” closes the season. The opera stars Ana Maria Labin, Angela Brower, Megan Marino, James Ley, Robert Gleadow, Miriam Albano, and Alexandre Duhamel. Marc Minkowski conducts a production by Ivan Alexandre.

Jeune Académie Vocale d’Aquitaine performs Beethoven‘s Symphony No. 9 “Choral.

The Chorus of the Opéra National de Bordeaux performs works by Arvo Pärt alongside conductor Salvatore Caputo.

Performance Date: Jan. 25, 2022

A performance of Bach’s “Vie du Christ” spotlights soprano Ying Fang, alto Sara Mingardo, tenors Julian Prégardien and Laurence Kilsby, baritone Huw Montague-Rendall, and bass Christian Immler alongside the Chorus Pygmalion and conductor Raphaël Pichon.

The Chorus of the Opéra National de Bordeaux performs works by Fouilloux, Rabaud, and Lesur.

Soprano Ingela Brimberg perform Richard Strauss‘ “Vier Letzte Lieder” alongside conductor Paul Daniel.

Mezzo-soprano Anaïk Morel and sopranos Nikola Hillebrand and Ana Maria Labin present excerpts from Strauss’ “Der Rosenkavalier” alongside conductor Paul Daniel.
