René Barbera has been awarded the title of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Minister of Culture.
In a statement the tenor said, “Through this award, intended to reward those who have distinguished themselves by their creativity in the cultural spheres, or by their support for the distribution of knowledge and works that form the wealth of our cultural heritage, France has decided to pay tribute to your contribution to the distribution of Arts and Letters in France and worldwide.”
He added, “I don’t have the proper words to express how honored I am to have been awarded the rank of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the Minister of Culture of France. I have been holding onto this news for a few months and I couldn’t wait any longer to make this public knowledge. To be recognized in this way is beyond the scope of my wildest dreams.”
This season the tenor is set to perform “Guillaume Tell” at the New National Theatre in Japan as well as “I Puritani” at the Tiroler Festspiele. He will also sing in “Lucrezia Borgia” at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.
