The Oslo National Opera in Norway has named Randi Stene the General Director. The former contralto will begin her new position on August 1, 2020.

Born in Trondheim, Stene has performed at Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Metropolitan in New York, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in London, Bastille Opera in Paris, Komische Opera in Berlin, Oper Frankfurt and La Monnaie in Brussels. She has also performed alongside conductors such as Esa-Pekka Salonen, Pierre Boulez, Christoph von Dochnany, Bernhard Haitink, Andres Nelson’s Yannick Nezet-Seguin and Antonio Pappano.

She is currently a professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music and is the operations manager at the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and opera.

“I have sung at many stages, but the Opera in Oslo has something very special,” Stene said in a press statement.  With its open, inviting architecture and unique acoustics, it is as if the building asks us to create great art. In addition, it highlights us as individual artists and helps us to perform at our best.”
