The Teatro dell’Opera di Roma has announced that it will present “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” on New Year’s Eve.

After the success of the company’s streamed production on Dec. 5, Rai 5 will rebroadcast the Rossini masterpiece at 21:15 local time.

Daniele Gatti conducted the opera in a production by famed filmmaker and opera director Mario Martone.

The new production, which opened the 2020-21 season starred Andrzej Filończyk as Figaro, Ruzil Gatin as Conte d’Almaviva, Vasilisa Berzhanskaya as Rosina, Alessandro Corbelli as Don Bartolo, Alex Esposito as Don Basilio, Patrizia Biccirè as Berta, and Roberto Lorenzi as Fiorello. Roberto Gabbiani leads the chorus.

“Il Barbiere di Siviglia” represented the third operatic production for the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma following COVID-19 lockdowns. The production was recorded without an audience due to the strict sanitary measures in Italy.
