Polish Composer Elżbieta Sikora To Receive French Honor

Polish composer Elżbieta Sikora is set to be honored with the Prize of the President of the French Republic for her lifetime achievement in music.

The award will be given to the composer on March 21, 2024 at the Polish embassy in Paris on Thursday, under the auspices of President Emmanuel Macron. The prize is an annual award given by the French Académie Charles Cros and the composer said, it is “a source of great pride and joy, coming as it does in the year of my 80th birthday.”

Sikora, who is a French resident, also thanked her Polish labels Anaklasis and PWM Music Publishers, which recently released two albums with her works.

Throughout her career, Sikora has composed over 110 works in a wide range of genres, from electroacoustic to instrumental and vocal music. She is currently in a midst of writing an opera. To mark her 80th birthday, performances of her works will be presented in European capitals, as well as in Montreal and São Paulo.
